About Skjetten

With its 10,000 inhabitants, the small-town forms Skjetten to the junction between Gardermoen (Oslo Airport) and the close relation to the capital city, Oslo. If you are more of the outdoorsy type you will have a lot to be excited over by staying here. Rural surroundings with a beautiful landscape view both high and low. A small farm in the distance with endless acres of land and the early morning mist floating over the landscape. Everything from birdwatching, cows, floodlit trails to river runs will be around you. You are still close to where the "action" is with Lillestrøm city centre only 5 minutes away along with Norway Trade Fairs (Norges Varemesse). Places to be

Did you know that you can find one of the oldest airports in the world just 10 minutes away? The first plane from Kjeller Airport took place September 21, 1912. The first student was Roald Amundsen and he graduated as the first with an international flying certificate in Norway in 1914. Here you can witness airplane veterans in the museum and in action a summer day. And if you're lucky, you can also experience the annual flight show (16. June 2019). Today it is used both as a military base and a base for the largest two small ariplane clubs in Norway. The airport is considered as the largest base for small aircraft in Norway.

About the building

"Kasjotten" buildt as a prison in 1863. Since then it was empty from 1904-1923 when it was used as an asylum for mentally ill women under the name "Stav Nursing home" until 1975. After a few years it was bought privately and buildt as a hotel. The hotel had 38 guest rooms, of which 24 were old prison cells that was merged two and two. Aside from retaining the old, characteristic brick mass building, the hotel kept several interior gems from the prison period like the old cell doors with a peeping holde and a hatch to deliver food to the prisoners, Hotel guests could among other things, gaze upon the beamed ceiling, and you could look forward to old lavish interior in brown, red and gold. The name of the hotel was not randomly picked out. In Norwegian, the word “kasjotten” is literally translated as dungeon or jail. Today, Kasjotten has been renovated and transformed into 45 furnished apartments, run by Maya Apartments. The apartments are no longer haunted by the old-fashioned interior. Inspired by the Scandinavian style Maya Apartments invites you in to modern, airy and playful interior.
